The game of Hockey is growing in popularity at school level which is extremely positive for Hockey in South Africa. Hockey at professional level is no longer played on Natural Grass fields as natural fields are too slow, bumpy and inconsistent. The game is now played on Astro Hockey Fields all around South Africa and the World.
In order for players to advance in the game of hockey they must train and play on an artificial synthetic turf surface as it provides consistent ball roll, ball bounce and improves the overall speed of the game.
With the obvious advantages of these facilities like low maintenance, all year usage and consistent playing characteristics, these facilities are becoming a must for Schools and Clubs around the country.
Synsport has constructed and installed over 140 Synthetic Hockey Pitches and counting. We offer the latest in Hockey Turf and Shock pad technology. EDEL ID – WET BASED HOCKEY TURF

Our engineers designed Edel ID. together with hockey professionals, coaches, and top players. Edel ID. is our premium water-based hockey system, offering a durable field and an unmatched playing experience.
EDEL LSR24 – SAND Dressed HOCKEY TURF
The Edel Elite LSR24 synthetic turf system for hockey has proved itself over the years as the leading sand-filled hockey pitch. The fibrillated original Ten Cate Grass fibres, combined with the fine infill sand, ensure controlled maneuvering and slide-stopping. The result is a durable hockey pitch with perfect playing properties. Edel Elite LSR has been acknowledged by many as the pitch to choose when buidling a sand-filled hockey field.
EDEL ID SO – Hybrid HOCKEY TURF
Since the introduction water-based and sand-filled hockey surfaces, there has been a demand for hockey surfaces offering the best of both. With the introduction of our Edel ID system for water-based hockey fields, also the opportunity arose to offer a sand-filled system in which the sand was invisible. We called it Edel ID Sand-obscured, combining the characteristics of a traditional sand-dressed field with the esthetics of a water-based field.
EDEL Aero – Dry-to-play Hockey Turf
This Dry-to-Play system consists of intense texturized sturdy yarns and a compact production method. A combination that creates the most dense system available on the market. The properties make the field robust and ensure minimal wear a/o tear. The result? A durable field with a long lifespan without the need for water.

Our in-house maintenance division offers tailor-made solutions for sports surface maintenance. Not only for synthetic turf pitches but also hard courts (tennis, netball, basketball) as well as athletics tracks.
